The San Antonio Mobile Mental Wellness Collaborative is the first of its kind in the nation. It is an upstream collaboration of nonprofits focusing on behavioral health prevention so that our public schools do not have to focus fully on intervention.
Through each agency’s expertise, professionals are able to work with all student age groups and meet their behavioral health needs in their own learning environment.
Recognizing that a student cannot be fully well if their support system isn’t well, the collaborative care model takes the holistic approach by incorporating parents and guardians, teachers, and administrative staff into the mental wellness program. Services are offered on school district property or virtually to help eliminate the transportation barrier that often limits access to mental health services.
Students at South San ISD addressed their board of trustees requesting that district funds be used to provide mental health programs. The San Antonio Mobile Mental Wellness Collaborative was formed in direct response to this overwhelming need.
The CareZone opens at South San ISD and begins offering mental wellness counseling, education, outreach and wraparound services.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual services are added. These services continue to be available for those who prefer virtual services or when school buildings are closed.
Pilot program ends with serving more than 1,600 people through counseling and outreach in just six months.
Program expands to include Harlandale ISD.
Third school district is added, Edgewood ISD.
School year ends with 4,800+ students, families, teachers, and district staff served.
The backbone of the program moves under the umbrella of Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute.
San Antonio ISD and Judson ISD are added to the program.

The San Antonio Mobile Mental Wellness Collaborative was founded in 2019 by a group of nonprofits wanting to provide a holistic approach to mental wellness by breaking barriers and bringing services right into the schools.
The group currently serves school districts by offering individual and group counseling, psychiatry, education, outreach, and wraparound support to students, families, teachers, and district staff.
